Access to CBT Award Courses

These courses provide a practical training for people with counselling skills who want to deliver effective CBT interventions in a safe, professional manner. We can deliver them on your premises, at times to suit your staff.

Course One - Common Mental Health Problems

This is a 60-hour course which offers an Award in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). It is comprised of 40 hours of tutor led sessions and 20 hours of academic group supervision. This course will offer an insight into the basic skills and strategies of CBT. It will enables participants to adopt a positive approach in developing assessment, formulation and treatment skills whilst working with individuals with a variety of common mental health problems.

This course considers the principles and values underpinning effective cognitive behavioural therapeutic intervention skills, and therefore offering an effective approach to clinical practice. Additionally, this will enable the participant to gain an understanding of administration of assessment and formulation skills in their practice by using CBT methodology.

The participants will benefit from academic group supervision on a weekly basis from a BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, helping them through the process by enabling candidates to become reflective and competent practitioners. The course also requires participants to complete and present materials throughout the course of study.

Learning Outcome

This course will enable the participants to:

  • Have a clear understanding of the theory and characteristics of CBT

  • Become familiar with CBT skills and techniques applied through a course of therapy

  • Become familiar with behavioural and cognitive approaches

  • Be able to complete assessment of needs using CBT approach

  • Be able to use assessment instruments for common mental health problems

  • Have a clear understanding of formulation and its application in practice

  • Become familiar with models of CBT for Anxiety, Depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in practice.

Course Two - Complex Mental Health Problems

This is a 60-hour course which offers an Award in CBT. It is comprised of 40 hours of tutor led sessions and 20 hours of academic supervision. It will offer an insight into the basic skills and strategies of CBT. This course will offer participants an understanding in the approaches and processes involved in the administration of assessment, development of formulation and the subsequent treatment plan.

This course will give an insight and understanding into the basic skills and strategies of CBT for participants working with complex cases by utilising strategies, principles and theoretical understanding and its practical application within a variety of settings. The participants will benefit from academic supervision on a weekly basis from a BABCP Accredited psychotherapist helping them through the process by enabling candidates to become reflective and competent practitioners.
